It seems this is a FEATURE not a bug of the technology we use. In essence it is by design that we are driven to conflict without consequence as a way to render us useless.
Yes. I would argue that PvP current thing discourse is also detrimental to developing other more complex and insightful forms of thought. This is why I leave social media for long periods of time. You have to detox or your ability to write effectively and think deeply suffers. Of course you CAN simply function as a simple machine that senses enemy political input words and then outputs the corresponding rebuttals on social media, but it accomplishes nothing aside from boosting intangible flows of data.
I respect your ability to do that, frankly I've been feeling this overwhelming desire to leave it behind for the last month or so but fear the consequences of being away from "the conversation". I suppose that's a big reason I wrote down these thoughts
The model describes reminds me of how one of the greatest paradigm shifts of the French Revolution was allowing the general public to view the National Assembly. Instead of addressing their arguments to the members of the assembly, they were playing to the crowd. With the internet bringing together a far greater critical mass of the public, the effect is almost on steroids by comparison.
Great commentary, I do miss the potential to make a further ontology with gaming from the term PvP politics and the WoW raids, but It shows well how vulgar online discourse is powered by the vice economy.

Great comparison, I hadn't considered that framing!
